Michael Connelly's The Gods of Guilt

The Gods of Guilt is another great legal thriller from Michael Connelly featuring Mickey Haller, the character made famous in The Lincoln Lawyer. I enjoy how Mickey is haunted by his past mistakes, both in work and his personal life, but doesn't let it drag him into a quagmire of drinking or other destructive behavior. He perseveres in trying to re-establish a relationship with his daughter and takes another chance on love, but goes into the relationship honestly and slowly. He still fights for his client and for the truth, even though his courtroom success once freed a killer, who killed again. Without being reckless, Mickey doesn't let potential danger to himself to stifle his case or investigation.
The book is filled with twists, scary drug cartel guys, corrupt cops, and a naive, fresh associate attorney on her way up. Although part of a series the books do not need to be read in order to appreciate the story. A reader can ignore the personal parts of the story line or take them in for future reference with other books in the Mickey Haller series.

  1. I'm not a big reader of thrillers, although this sounds very readable!!

  2. I have been listening to this series on audio and listened to this one myself this month. I hadn't heard that a new book in the series was coming this fall. Definitely excited to hear that since I was kind of sad to catch up on the books. They are so great!
