My Crafty Mama

This Sunday is Mother's Day, and my EtsyBloggers colleague Made by Melissa has suggested we write a post about our mom. Since it's an EtsyBloggers post, I decided to write about how craft my mom is. Back in the 1970s my mom was a SAHM who did all the mom things: she was our Girl Scout leader, drove the car pools, and taught several sewing and crafty badges to our Girl Scout troop.

She had always made her own clothes, and was still making ours, so taking a class called "Sewing With Knits" or learning to crochet were right up her alley.

She took classes in ceramics and made some great things, including a little Swiss cottage bank for me, and a statue that looks like my sister with our dog.

I have shared some of her crewel work in the past, including my dancing Raggedy Ann, which currently hangs in my powder room, and the beautiful Jacobean panels that she has hanging in her living room.

She learned macrame and made jewelry and wall hangings, including this big panel that's in the dining room, and an owl and a frog in the family room. The best thing about my mom's craftiness is that she passed it on to me! I have made many things as gifts, and have kept a few creations, like the cross-stitched schoolhouse clock, and now I make and sell macrame jewelry, a skill she taught me, on etsy. So thanks Mom, for passing on your creative craftiness!

Here she is teaching her granddaughter to make a macrame bracelet just last year!
