Don't be Crewel!

Every Thursday I am amazed at how much of the "stuff" of my life is classified as "vintage"! Good thing Suzanne @ Colorado Lady encourages us to share all of our treasures through the Vintage Thingies Thursday posting. I bet you've got a lot of things that you think are old junk, but to someone they are vintage treasures, so look around and join us! Be sure to read through to the bottom of this post for a fun surprise!
I have some more crewel work from the 1970s. These panels with the great Jacobean flowers and birds were embroidered by my mom. They hang in the living room over the stereo cabinet. I absolutely love them! I love the colors, shapes and textures, and the wonderful impact they have being hung together.
Like some of the other treasures in my parents' house, I would love to take these, but I don't want to be a vulture stripping their house. However, I'd like to point out that the "living room" isn't lived in or even walked through as a passage to other rooms. It's just there, and where these are hung they can't even be seen from other rooms. I'm just sayin'...
I heard about a fun Pay it Forward for 2009. It is pretty easy, and a fun way to share a Random Act of Kindness. I will send a small crafted item that I make myself to the first three people who comment on this post that they would like to be included. I will have a full year to send it, so you will never know when it is coming, the surprise will just appear one day! If you sign up for me to send you a little something, you are also committing to posting about this on your blog and sending something small to your own first three commenters. If you don't want to participate, don't mention the Pay it Forward in your comment. The idea is that it is a LITTLE surprise, not something that cost a fortune, just a little something you could make yourself. I heard about this from Patty @ Pip Stitch, so I know I will be getting something really great, and it will probably include caramels! Whatever I send out will probably have an edible treat as well.
I look forward to seeing what the other VTT gals are sharing this week, and I hope to see you over there commenting up a storm!

Hi Elizabeth, the crewel pieces are lovely. Isn't it scary that things from the 70s are considered vintage? Are we getting old or what? LOL
Happy VTT
Love, Ann

I love crewel. It was one of the first crafts I learned as a child. These are beautiful.

I always thought these were pretty.
I remember when ladies used to have
this type of crewel work on handbags.

In my family we are supposed to put our names on things we'd like to have, maybe you can write your name on the back of the embroidery?! But in my family someone was likely to come along, cross out the name & write their own,LOL!
I have some beautiful embroidery my Mum did too.

Those are so elegant! I started embroidering as a teen with an Avon pillow - now I stick to cross-stitch - whenever I find the time!
I'd love to Pay It Forward! Great movie, great idea!

These are beautiful! I remember my aunt having some similar. I signed up for Patty's pay it forward, but would be glad to do it again under you!! It should be fun.

I love your crewel pieces. They are my colors. I made some pretty ones in the 70s but they were 70s colors which I didn't even like very well then. I'm a pastel person. Needless to say I no longer have them.

Again, your pieces are beautiful. Crewelwork was very "vogue" then, wasn't it? I remember some in our hallway but unlike you, I didn't save things...

Perhaps you could hint that for a birthday or some other occasion, the crewelwork would make a perfect gift for you. Meanwhile enjoy them in their current spot, right.

Would have loved to be part of your "pay it forward" but think I'm too late.
That being said, I do love the crewel work pieces! The colors and pattern is fabulous!
Enjoyed, as always!
Blessings to you!
