WOOO! WOOO! [That's supposed to sound scary, BTW.]
In two days it will be Halloween and all the ghosties and goblins will be out and about. Let's see what vintage goodies have come out of my parents' basement this year!
In the 1970s, those little tricksters were greeted by this great pumpkin on the front door of my parents' house. It hung there for many years, as you can see from all the dried cellophane tape and torn parts. For some reason I always thought this pumpkin was a little scary, but it really isn't. Is it?
Not only were there store-bought decorations, we had all sorts of projects created by my sister and me. This was a school art project about positive and negative space when I was 11.
And here's the one Kathleen made 2 years later. When I taught 4th grade art I did this assignment with my students every year. We'd laminate them and they'd be placemats at the class Halloween party.
I know many of the Vintage Thingies Thursday folks will have all sorts of great Halloween things this week, so skip on over to ColoradoLady and check them out! Maybe someone will be giving out treats to visitors!

I think the tape and torn parts do make the pumpkin look a little scary.

Boo! Hi Elizabeth. I'm not scared of that big old jack 'o lantern. I think it's wonderful that it is still around! And you still have these cute little Halloween pictures you've made! Hope you're doing well and have a safe and fun Halloween.

I love that you've got Halloween decorations from your childhood! My Mom just gave me our old decorations, and I'm so happy to have them. I think that pumpkin might have scared me too, as a little girl. Those school projects are so cute!

ReplyDeleteElizabeth - I was in one of the old mills. Bernat Mill in Uxbridge. It was a huge fire and it was all over the news that summer.

I remember making place mats like the woven one you show here. We didn't have cut outs in ours, though, and it seems us kids made them for Easter, but I love the idea for kids to keep them busy. I should put my grand daughter to work on Thanksgiving making something with pumpkins and pilgrim hats on it - wouldn't that be cute?
ReplyDeleteI love your decorations. My mom had a pumpkin man with jointed legs and arms that hung on the door each year. I wish I had that...and thinking about that, I remember at Christmas time, we had paper decorations like this and we had a wiener dog that was split in half. One half went on one side of the door, the other half went on the other side of the door, and it was a Christmas decoration...if you don't think I'd pay BIG money to find one of those now....memories....funny how we want to buy them back! Have a great VTT! and a great weekend.
