WOOO! WOOO! [That's supposed to sound scary, BTW.]
In two days it will be Halloween and all the ghosties and goblins will be out and about. Let's see what vintage goodies have come out of my parents' basement this year!In the 1970s, those little tricksters were greeted by this great pumpkin on the front door of my parents' house. It hung there for many years, as you can see from all the dried cellophane tape and torn parts. For some reason I always thought this pumpkin was a little scary, but it really isn't. Is it?Not only were there store-bought decorations, we had all sorts of projects created by my sister and me. This was a school art project about positive and negative space when I was 11.And here's the one Kathleen made 2 years later. When I taught 4th grade art I did this assignment with my students every year. We'd laminate them and they'd be placemats at the class Halloween party.
I know many of the Vintage Thingies Thursday folks will have all sorts of great Halloween things this week, so skip on over to ColoradoLady and check them out! Maybe someone will be giving out treats to visitors!

I think the tape and torn parts do make the pumpkin look a little scary.
ReplyDeleteWonderful vintage Halloween treasures, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteIt is fun idea of Halloween! Cute orange.
ReplyDeleteYou Got A Posty
How fun that you still have your childhood artwork. Cathy was very old soul I see - 1000 years old!
ReplyDeleteI can see that pumpkin being scary - it's the eyes I think.
Boo! Hi Elizabeth. I'm not scared of that big old jack 'o lantern. I think it's wonderful that it is still around! And you still have these cute little Halloween pictures you've made! Hope you're doing well and have a safe and fun Halloween.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love that you've got Halloween decorations from your childhood! My Mom just gave me our old decorations, and I'm so happy to have them. I think that pumpkin might have scared me too, as a little girl. Those school projects are so cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
that jack-o-lantern still packs a punch even though it's been around for a few years!
ReplyDeleteNice jack o lantern! Tape and torn parts show that it was loved and used.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - I was in one of the old mills. Bernat Mill in Uxbridge. It was a huge fire and it was all over the news that summer.
ReplyDeleteI love bringing out things the kids have made. And they are old enough now that they are actually vintage. Cute Halloween post!
ReplyDeleteGreat vintage Halloween decorations. I think it's wonderful you have the art project that you made when you were 11 - how fun to bring it out every year.
ReplyDeleteJane
I think it is the way the Jack O Lantern is staring down at you that looks scary. Good idea with the placemats. I like your post!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun memories and items to bring out year after year! I agree, I think the eyes are the scary part of that pumpkin....BWWWAAAAHHHH!
ReplyDeleteHave a great VTT!
Wonderful, I really love the pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteLucky you to have Halloween decorations from your childhood as well as intact art projects!
ReplyDeleteGreat vintage Halloween decorations. I like your post! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
I remember making place mats like the woven one you show here. We didn't have cut outs in ours, though, and it seems us kids made them for Easter, but I love the idea for kids to keep them busy. I should put my grand daughter to work on Thanksgiving making something with pumpkins and pilgrim hats on it - wouldn't that be cute?
ReplyDeleteI love your decorations. My mom had a pumpkin man with jointed legs and arms that hung on the door each year. I wish I had that...and thinking about that, I remember at Christmas time, we had paper decorations like this and we had a wiener dog that was split in half. One half went on one side of the door, the other half went on the other side of the door, and it was a Christmas decoration...if you don't think I'd pay BIG money to find one of those now....memories....funny how we want to buy them back! Have a great VTT! and a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteKids love the Halloween crafts... or all crafts... oooh how fun to be a kid!
ReplyDeleteI miss decorating for Halloween. My kids are all grown and Hubby isn't in to it. waaaah :(
ReplyDeleteI love your stuff Elizabeth! So cool that you have saved it all!
I think I must be one of the few without Halloween vintage stuff- where was I, oh that's right I was growing up in Australia where we don't have Halloween!
ReplyDeleteBTW-IMO that pumpkin is rather creepy looking!
I'm so glad you kept that pumpkin face! Tape or not, it's still most worthy!
