It's my favorite day of the week, when so many friends stop by to see goodies from my dad's basement or my mom's closet. I truly appreciate each of you who take the time to stop by, read what I have to say, and leave a comment. I participate in other blog carnivals with many more participants and get many fewer comments, so you gals are true blue! One of the best things about Vintage Thingies Thursday is "taking a walk down Memory Lane," as my dad likes to say. Reminiscing and laughing, remembering when something was bought, or how it
was used. I also appreciate our hostess Suzanne @ ColoradoLady for picking up the VTT baton before it hit the ground.I am doing something different for VTT this week. Instead of showing something vintage, I have a few resources for all of us vintage lovers! We all love to research our finds and heirlooms, and I have two great resources for that. I'm sure you've heard of Ralph & Terry Kovel. I first heard of them when I bought one of their Depression Glass books 20 years ago. I also subscribed to their newsletter for many years, and saved them in a binder. In the cyber-age they are online and have a fantastic blog, Kovels Komments. They also have their business website, Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide-Kovelswhich is chock-fu
ll of information and pictures. They have a free weekly newsletter, too.
Another nifty publication is Reminisce magazine. I just learned about this one during the winter. My 85 year old aunt takes them from the common room of her apartment community. People leave magazines and then take others, books, too. The first one she gave me was December/January and of course I was in love with all of the Christmas items, photos, and stories. It isn't all about antiques, it's about taking that walk again, thinking about how things were, and seeing pictures of life in what we may perceive as a simpler time. For those who are so inclined, they are always looking for submissions of stories and photos.
My third resource is for buying retro items. The Vermont Country Store is a great place that I've been fortunate enough to visit twice, and I've always gotten their catalog. They have a great web site featuring things that are still manufacturred but are difficult to find. One of those is this great Santa pin
. I have an original from the 1970s. They also sell Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific and Prell shampoo, as well as some older perfumes, Lanz nightgowns, retro candy, you name it, they probably have it!
I hope you find this links useful, and will share any research sites you like in the comments here, so we can check those out, too!

Yes, I know it is Pink Saturday, but I did get caught up reading on and on in your blog. I have not been to the Vermont country store, but have looked at their catalogue online. If it is nice, and it's only about an hour away, that sounds like the perfect Sunday drive. I'll let you know if we do. Thanks for the share. This is a day that is right in line with me. I should participate...note.
