It's here again, PINK SATURDAY! Like many of you, my family knows about my blogging obsessions and thinks they're funny and silly. This particular post was initiated by my mom who got so excited about this plant and started saying to me, "Oh, this for Pink Day! Use this for Pink Day!" So here it is...As most of the world knows I had my first cataract procedure on Monday. In addition to the tote bag of goodies like eye drops and wicked cool sunglasses, each patient, upon leaving the recovery room, is presented with an African violet from the doctor so we can see bright colors again. Cute idea, but you know my insurance company is the one paying for it in the long run!
The one I received is a variegated deep, rosy pink and white. I hope I can keep it alive because I really like it. I had good luck with an African violet once, but then moved to a place with little sunlight and it died. Everyone says to just ignore them and they'll be fine. We'll see....

isn't it funny how we have our families "trained" to see pink for us. I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope this guy or I should say gal holds out for you. You'll have to join Tootsie's Fertilizer Friday now. ~ Robyn

ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth! Oh, I hope you're doing well from your surgery! You stay out of the bright light! Oh, when I see an African violet I always think of Vacation Bible School when I was a little girl. We glued Popsicle sticks to a tin can and made a flower pot then popped in the African violet! I always loved those fuzzy leaves!

Ya know, I had an African Violet (notice the word "had"). I ignored it once and it didn't survive the experience. This is a lovely flower. I wish you luck with it as they really are very easy to take care of. Take it from someone who can kill aloe vera without trying. (tee hee ;)

What a nice thoughtful thing to give a patient! I've had good and bad luck with African violets. I think the key is the AMOUNT of sunlight. I grew several pots of them once--all blooming up a storm. Then, I moved and did not have the correct place to put them. They died.
ReplyDeleteI actually burned one once with too much sunlight.
So, I wish you and this sweet plant just the perfect amount of light for your futures to bloom.
How great the op worked and you can see colours clearly again! Stick with the eye drops and do exactly what they tell you - I have dry eye syndrome (after 5 ops for a blocked tearduct and an artificial tearduct replacement in the left eye) and now it's all gone the other way, and I'm stuck with drops for the duration (2 years now). Tedious, but there is nothing more precious than your eyes.

By the time I was 52 years old due to diabetes I had cataract surgery on both my eyes, and several laser treatments...just be faithful with the eye drops.
I will add you to my prayer list.
My eye surgeon never handed out african violets....I think it was a very sweet gesture of your Dr. to do so.

How thoughtful and what a beautiful plant. I've always liked African Violets and remember my grandmother growing them in the window ledge in her kitchen. Thanks for the memory.
