My Story

Welcome to the world of the Evil Overlord! To learn what THAT means, there is a tab you can click for more information.
I am a 40-ish single gal trying to live a positive life my own way. I grew up in small-town Connecticut, attended college in Cambridge, MA, and spent 7 years teaching 4th grade in Spring, TX, a suburb of Houston. When I decided to return to New England my sister and her husband welcomed me into their home during my job search and I was very lucky to be hired as a 6th grade English and Social Studies teacher in their town!
In July 2003 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood-borne cancer similar to leukemia. I have been in remission 3 times, and the cancer has come back twice, resulting in 2 bone marrow transplants. These days, due to my compromised immune system I do not go to work, the movies, restaurants, or shops. Thank goodness for the Internet! For more about my life with cancer, scroll down to the end of these posts and read upward.
I love spending time with my twin nephews, who are in 8th grade, and my niece who is 10. We spend a lot of time together watching movies, playing games, and sometimes doing crafts. They have been an amazing help to me around the house and doing errands, as have my sister and brother in law. I am also very lucky that my parents are only a few hours away and visit regularly.
I love to read and recently began reading advance publications for Hatchette Book group, which I review on this blog. I also like to do crafts and am fortunate to have an entire room devoted to my mess. I am currently into paper crafts and making macrame jewelry. A huge amount of my time is spent online blogging and visiting with friends through my decorating (aka RMS refugees) and scrapbooking discussion groups.

  1. I signed on as a follower to your blog - I have a friend whose daughter has Hodgekins, very scarey for her. She is doing well, though, despite it all. Blessings to you!

  3. hi Elizabeth, I am so sorry that I have not been by to see you in such a long time. Yours is the one blog, but I should stop by more often. there is an awful lot to look at and such a variety of interests that you have. I miss you at the café, but I can see you are very busy on your blog. That's a great picture of you in front of the waterfront. I will bookmark your blog and be sure to come by, more often.
    love, Sarah

i have shut off the CAPCHA, so if you are asked to type a word or number, please let me know. It is very annoying and slows down comments.
