At her yoga studio in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles, Lee brings something extra to her yoga classes. It's not particularly mystical, but both she and the students notice that way she plans her sessions to be a journey of release, and her attention to the details of each individual student bring great emotional, as well as physical growth to people. Lee's assistant manager and the studio masseuse is a recovering addict whose life is coming together. Between the amazing massages and the magical yoga, Lee's name is spreading and she has picked up some celebrity clients, and has caught the eye of a national chain of yoga studios who want to brand her particular style and close down here studio. Lee is the sole financial provider for her family, so this could be the greatest thing to happen for them. In addition to the studio, Lee juggles her young twin boys with little to no help from her musician husband, who has recently moved out of the house to gain perspective. There were many predictable things about the stories of Lee and 4 of her students but the individual vignettes were woven back and forth so well that it kept me reading to see what decisions each woman would make. Tales from the Yoga Studio by Rain Mitchell is supposed to be the first book in a series, the second is Head Over Heels. I got it from the library and it is my fourth library book of the year for the Snagged at the Library Challenge. |
