I didn't do a lot of reading this week; I feel kind of like a bum. Maybe all this snow is finally getting to me. Because I am a handicapped walker, I haven't left my house in 120 days! You'd think I'd be doing more reading, but instead I've been sleeping like crazy.FINISHED THIS WEEK
Casting About by Terri DuLong was as expected. It is part of a series I've been picking at when I want something light. It's about all the people in the small town of Cedar Key, FL. This one focused on the owner of the knitting shop, who never seemed to be at work, and her friend the owner of the coffee shop. IT had issues of blending families, and developers changing the way of life in a small town.
A Wedding in Provence by Ellen Sussman was a little disappointing. I wanted more about Provence.
The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. by Nicole Bernier I didn't finish this one. I read about a third and found it slow and a little pointless, more of a character study. In my current slumpy mood I need something that moves fast or is light.
I Heart Bloomberg by Melody Carlson is a chick lit I downloaded from the library because I was out of physical books.
Along Came Trouble by Sherryl Woods was disappointing. Not one of her best. I even checked the copyright to see if it was from when she first started writing. Some of the characters are way too one dimensional and actually come across as un-intelligent (to me) when they are important people in their community.
Tonight I am starting Searching for Captain Wentworth by Jane Odiwe. It's got time travel and goes back to when Jane Austen was living in Bath.

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the weather's made it hard to get about and you're struggling a little. I'm like you though, I need to be in the mood to read and I can be fussy about what I read when. (I'm the same with TV shows incidentally - when I have a few things taped or on DVD I go with what I feel like - usually something light to start with and something heavier later in the evening!)

A Wedding in Provence has a nice cover, I think I would want lots of Provence too after looking at that. Hope your reads are all good this week. :)

Wow, that's a lot of books you're reading there. I just finished "The Nightingale" by Kristen Hannah and I loved it, I highly recommend it!

ReplyDeleteThe School of Essential Ingredients was wonderful on audio and I'm sure it would have been just as goon in print! The Paying Guests was good, but a little too long... and the ending was a disappointment.

Though I've been tempted, I've not read any Jane Austen inspired novels/spin offs, so will be interested to hear what you think of Searching for Captain Wentworth. Persuasion was one of my Austen favourites.
