Welcome to my first Book Blogger LoveAThon, hosted by Alexa Loves Books and originally conceived by Katelyn from Kate's Tales of Books and Bands. I am Elizabeth, the Evil Overlord, coming to you from a small town south of Boston, MA, USA, and this is where I share my thoughts, mostly about books, but sometimes other things. On the tabs above, you can learn about my semi-ironic blog title and my almost 12 years living with Hodgkin's Disease, a blood-borne cancer in the leukemia family. I am returning to blogging after a 4 year hiatus when juggling a job and a blog was too much to handle. Prior to that I was home on a disability for 4 years and blogged almost every day, doing reviews for TLC, Hachette, and other publishers and book tours.

| Did you have any Golden Books? |
My personal goal for 2015 is to get back to blogging, so I've been reviewing books I choose from my library. Besides reading I enjoy doing paper and bead crafts, although I haven't done much lately. I also love movies and TV. I really like getting the chance to hit the antique/junk shops and have a lot of vintage items from various family members. In the past one of my favorite blog memes was
Vintage Thingies Thursday hosted by
ColoradoLady, but she's not doing it any more and it seems no one picked it up.

Something I like about blogging is how quickly one can connect with people, even faster than IRL sometimes. I think this is because you are usually focusing on one topic and not all of the "get to know you" stuff of a new friend, and that you often visit with them several times a week instead of spaced out over weeks as usually happens IRL. I got into blogging 7 years ago as an extension of a chat group. We had come together over decorating ideas and expanded into crafts and cooking. When someone started a book discussion thread, I was all excited, but no one actually discussed the books or showed up for the live chats. So I took my bookie thoughts and made a blog.

I love historical fiction, mysteries, crime thrillers, and chick lit. Not a lot of romance or scariness. Sometimes a memoir, biography, or historical non-fiction. Rarely literary fiction. A former middle school social studies and English teacher, I still go for some of the YA titles being released.
I know I only addressed about half of the suggestions from the questionnaire, but this is getting long and you want to visit everyone. I look forward to meeting everyone, reading your Book Spine Poetry, and seeing Your Book Character Valentines. Enjoy the LoveAThon!
I hope you have a great weekend getting to know lots of new people.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we do need a break to make sure juggling too many things doesn't take away our love for blogging! Welcome back to the community!!
ReplyDeleteI agree that blogging is an easier way to connect sometimes than in real life. In blogging you can o straight to the people who share the same interests and want to talk about the same things you do. IRL that's harder to find. It's been fun seeing everyone's posts! Though is hard to find time for all of them - there's so many.

You're so strong to share your illness experience with everyone.
ReplyDeleteWoot that's awesome that you've been reviewing library books. Give that library some love!
Nice to meet another Supernatural fan:)
It's certainly been amazing to get to know people from all over who share a common interest (books) and even cooler to interact with them so regularly! Also, you're totally brave for sharing about your personal experience with cancer, so props to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the Love-a-Thon!
I agree -- blogging about a common interest/topic is a lot easier to connect than in real life! So glad that you will be coming back to blogging! :)
