Vintage Thingies Thursday, the most wonderfully fun day of the week! Our hostess Suzanne @ ColoradoLady has a list of all the blogs sharing wonderful vintage and antique treasures this week. I have some more patterns from the awesome basket of vintage patterns my mom gave me for Christmas.
I remember wearing a bathing suit like the one on the right. The panels would float on top of the water and got in the way when trying to swim. If I'd been older and into my tanning phase it would have been helpful, though!
Check out the little girl in the red play suit! She's got some attitude, huh? I actually think I'd like a little outfit like that right now!
Sundresses are the way to go for summer. I love polka dots and rickrack trim, but the dress seems a little baggy, although it would definitely be cool and comfortable.

Elizabeth, I knew when I clicked on this post that surely I had one of those patterns...and GUESS WHAT!!! I did, the last one and remember sewing dresses from that VERY pattern!! I swear, we have (rather I had), (you STILL have) many of the very same things!! Love it!!! Have a great VTT!
Hey, I made that swimsuit on the right for myself when I was 13 or 14! That was the exact pattern I used. The extra coverage was great because I wasn't quite svelte enough for a bikini. Thanks for bringing back memories!
Seeing the old patterns is fun, but I now hate those styles.
I had a swimsuit like that, too... wish I could remember the fabric - I'm thinking it was a print or check. My mom sewed Kasi and me a lot of matchy-matchy outfits, too. I always got the more "masculine" color, while Kasi got the pinks and reds!
I love he bathing suit like you had. I think it would still be fashionable today.
I just really enjoy seeing those old patterns!!!! My mom didn't sew but I had friends whose Moms did and there were always patterns liek these hanging around! :) Happy VTT!

Gosh, these patterns take me back. My mom used to sew for us. I don't remember these exact patterns, but she had some from this era.
I love seeing these old patterns! I used to make alot of my own clothes, and I miss doing that. That sundress looks comfy, but it's not very figure-flattering, is it?!

I have never been a sewer, but my mother was. I remember so many of her patterns. As for a swim suit, I only owned one in my lifetime. It was given to me but never wore it. That is just a part of being crazy.
Those are neat...and cracks me up about the panels floating on top of the water! You'd think they'd think that one through... :) Have a great day!

Like your vintage patterns. I see quite a few of them at thrift stores. I've probably worn a lot of the outfits in those days. Love your floating suit story.
Wonderful patterns! I remember my Mom attempting to make swimsuits once.....she wasn't the best semstress and swimsuits were beyond her talents....we went to JCPenney's and bought suits :)

My sister and I had a swimsuit just like this, but it was storebought. And you are right about the panels getting in the way of swimming. I grew up when the bikini was coming in to play, but my mother would not let us wear anything that showed our bellybutton! Heaven forbid!

I always enjoy seeing old patterns. I do remember most of these style and I too had a swimsuit like yours!
Vintage patterns are always so fun to look at! Even if you don't like the pattern itself you can use the paper as tissue for gift wrapping ...
