I was inspired to share this great crewel-work shadowbox by the birds who sing in the woods outside my bedroom window every morning, starting at about 4:30, as soon as they can see the sun starting to come up. My mom made this shadowbox in the 1970s. It has many different stitches, but the one that fascinates me still is the puffy cut loops that make up the nest. I've never done that particular stitch myself.
It hung in our upstairs hallway for 20 years, until the box separated from the backing and it was never fixed. I need to take care of those stains with Suzanne's special recipe for washing vintage linens, and then I will put it back together and hang it in my house. I know nothing about birds, so if you know what kind these are, please share with us! I think the bird in the top box looks like the one on the Vintage Thingies Thursday logo, don't you?
