Welcome to Vintage Thingies Thursday, hosted by Suzanne @Colorado Lady. Since it is now October, many people are thinking about Halloween decorations. I don't do a lot of Halloween decorating, I'm more of a fall harvest decorator, and I shared all my vintage Halloween thingies last year, so this is a repost.
I don't know the proper name for these decorations. My family always called them the melted plastic popcorn decorations. They are made of thousands of little confetti-like pieces of plastic that have been slightly melted and molded into a design. These were bought in the early 1970s. They were difficult to find back then, and I haven't seen new ones for sale anywhere in the last 30 years. I decided to be a little "teacher-ish" and share some info I learned about these awesome decorations.
Originally I had asked if anyone knew where I could buy more of these or what they were called. But, being the researcher that I am, I checked out these kitschy items myself. People actually DO call them melted plastic popcorn decorations! I googled the term and got 87,000 hits! Most were from people looking for these decorations or selling them. They sell for about $3.00-$10.00, depending on their rarity, on eBay and other sites. My pumpkin and witch were all over the place, as were lots of cute ones for Christmas. I also found the name of the manufacturer, which I have since forgotten, but they went out of business 4 years ago.I hope these guys brought back memories for some of you! Be sure to visit Suzanne and the other Vintage Thingies Thursday participants at ColoradoLady.

Tacky as they are they are classic... wish I had a few.
xx
We had a couple of these when I was a kid... I think a snowman and a santa. I specifically remember being drawn to a holly leaf with berries (I think it was on the snowmans hat). ~Kari
Did you decorate your classroom in
themes for the year? Your witch is
cute!
I have quite a few of these things including this witch! They were always fun for the kids. I haven't used any of mine in years except for a simple large red heart with a white arrow that I often hang on one door in February.
I never knew what to call these things either. Gosh, I am old. I bought things that are now vintage! Yikes! LOL!
Yep, I remember this post from last year!
Justine :o )
I remember those, but never knew what they were called, either! You've got a dandy there!
Elizabeth, I added your link for today, if you emailed me to do it, somehow I did not get the email....Love these old decorations....love your witch.
Happy VTT!
I was thinking plastic confetti... and then you said it. I can't believe they haven't been made in 30 years. Oy - I feel old all of a sudden.
Cute witch. I remember this type of decoration too.
Those plastic thingies are new to me.
I remember 'em too. Seems as we could buy them at Rose's and Sky City. Sorta cheap/inexpensive chain stores before we had Wal-Mart and Target.
Cool that you kept 'em Elizabeth.
Happy VTT!
Becky
