It's Book Blogger Appreciation Week, so all of my posts are reading related in some way this week. For Blue Monday I shared my Blue Fairy Book from my childhood, which has such wonderful illustrations, many which have blue in them.
I know my VTT friends would also love to see these gorgeous illustrations, so I have some without blue to share with you, and you can go to the Blue Monday post to see more if you like.
This particular book is from a series entitled Random House Books for Children.
Under this imprint Random House would edit and abridge classics into a picture book version.
In this specific book, the stories are exactly as Andrew Lang wrote them, but there are fewer and I like the illustrations in this version better.
In the standard of picture books published in the 1950s, the text is wrapped around the illustrations, and the style alternates from black and white to color. I loved the book as a child.
I still base all my thoughts and imaginings about kings and princesses and knights on the illustrations from this book.

Theres nothing better than an old vintage book...I always try to imagine all the people that have thumbed through the pages!
I like vintage children's books. I actually have more of my mother's than mine. I think I must have skipped from Golden Books that were discarded to library books, though I did have a couple of classics that weren't saved either.

Love vintage childrens books, just a shame at the first part of this year so many people were destroying them because of the new CPSIA laws. Sad!

I love this link to our childhood. I'm not sure our "babies" of today are HEARING these wonderful old tales and nursery rhymes. Makes me kinda sad.
What a nice post! I remember my "fairy" books as a child in the 50's too. I work at a library and all the little girls come in looking for Princess books. They will always be popular. Enjoyed looking at yours!
