Feeling a Little Crabby

I rarely feel frustrated or crabby, mostly because I don't come into contact with people enough for them to piss me off. Which would happen all the time when I was out in the world. I know many of my bloggy visitors think I am sweet and nice, (both words have actually been used to describe me) but I truly am an evil overlord at heart. Anyhoo, I am feeling frustrated and crabby this evening after my Pink Saturday and Blue Monday visits. Let me tell you why...

I feel held back by word verification! I know that some folks have had trouble with spam comments, so they have enabled word verification, but until you have a problem, why? I've had no word verification for almost 2 years, and no spam! Nada, Zip, Zilch. Look at the SITS girls. No word verification and hundreds of comments a day. They've never mentioned getting junk comments, and with their SEO so high, they'd be hit before little old me.
With Wordpress and Typepad I have a really difficult time reading the code and usually have to enter it at least twice, my record being 7 times! Blogger has an option called "embedded comments" where readers can scroll right down and leave their comment. Should be quick and easy, right? Not if you have word verification on. It slows everything down. The fastest comment option in Blogger is "pop-up window" with no word verification. I timed them all. I know, too much time on my hands!

So that's my crabby rant. Not a biggie I know, but in my small world it is frustrating to set aside time to visit blogs and get to fewer than anticipated because of what to me is an unnecessary speed bump.

  1. I have posted the same rant on my blog and as you say, why have it if you have never had a problem. Some of the comments were justified and I understand why it is there. I still read and comment in the blogs that use it but it does slow things down.... good luck.

  2. Know what you mean - and I hate the word verification thing too. Took it off my blog - and others have too, but more have it than not. BOO!

  3. Oh I just love this snippety side of you!
It's frustrating to me also and now I'm scared that I've left word verification turned on.

I've had the need to turn on moderate comments and I chose that method because it doesn't slow anybody down. If it's spam, I don't publish it, it's really quite simple it seems.

  4. I always have trouble making out the word on one of them (Wordpress or Typepad). I think my record is four. It's so annoying. I moderated my comments in the early days because I saw the spam other people got and it was ridiculous. But I've turned it off and have only received spam comments two or three times.

  5. Can I just say... why do people STILL have it on???

Does ANYONE like using word verification???

    Drives me bonkers.

I hope lots and lots and lots of people stop by and read your blog today!!

    Many blessings-

i have shut off the CAPCHA, so if you are asked to type a word or number, please let me know. It is very annoying and slows down comments.
