Blue Fairies & BBAW

Book Blogger Appreciation Week starts today! This is a week to share a love of reading, find a new book blog that suits your style, as well as books and authors to expand your horizons! Mondays are always Blue Monday of course, so I'm combining the two this week.Last year, on the first day of BBAW, I shared a copy of Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book from the 1920s. Today I have a newer, yet still vintage, version from Random House. This is the book that began my love of fairy tales, and is the basis by which I judge illustrations in books of traditional stories. I've found a bunch of illustrations that have blue in them to share with you.Not many people know the story of Felicia and the Pot of Pinks. She's kind of like a Cinderella. Here she is fighting off the rats that have infested her bed.Check out the Queen's head dress! She is welcoming her son back. He had been enchanted and was turned into the Pot of Pinks! Felicia rescued him.Toads and Diamonds is another story about the Cinderella-ish girl being nice to someone, and her sister being nasty. One spits out diamonds and the other toads. Here's Jack confronting the Giant. This giant used to kind of scare me!
There are so many more great illustrations that I think I'll share more this week for Vintage Thingies Thursday, so come on back!
Be sure to visit Smiling Sally and the Other Blue Monday participants.
There are lots of great giveaways, both for books and non-reading items at BBAW all week long, as well as over 60 blogs giving things away as of today. I'm sure more will be added as the week goes on. I have 2 books on my right sidebar, and I've donated some Christmas and Halloween jewelry to the main BBAW site.

I miss illustrations such as these in our techno world. It is too easy to whip something up on the computer.

Very pretty.

Have a great day!

Have a really great day,

You must be such a good teacher of children; your books reflect that. Happy Blue Monday.

I think that the closing date of your giveaways may be off.
