Oh, My Gravy!

I hope everyone had a great weekend; it was very hot and humid here in the Boston area, with horrible air quality, so I stayed inside and watched a lot of movies and did some crafts. Believe it or not, I made earrings for Christmas! Thinking of Christmas and Thanksgiving makes me think of all the awesome foods that I only eat on those occasions, one of which is gravy. My dad is a big gravy guy, he pours it over everything on his plate, which totally grosses me out. I like a little gravy on my turkey, and that's about it.For my blue today, I have the gravy boat which is always on my mom's table for holidays. It has a beautiful blue trim and great details inside as well.I have always liked this gravy boat, and hope to get my hands on it some day, even though I'm not a gravy eater! I love it's symmetry and it would look great in my house because I like using blue accents.
Are there any foods you only eat at certain times, like holidays?

  2. That gravy boat is so pretty!

I am like you...a little gravy on my turkey is good enough, and maybe a drop or two on mashed potatoes. My Dad is like your Dad....gravy on everything...yuck!!! :-)

On the holidays I always look forward to a lot of the Greek pastries that we don't really make other times of the year!

  4. I'm with you on the gravy issue. Hot sandwiches made with leftover turkey or beef is a better use of gravy than pouring it over everything IMO.

Please do show us your earrings.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  5. Beautiful little gravy boat. Like you, we eat gravy only rarely. Could eat it every single day but since it's not all that great for ya, we try to hold it down.
    Now...let's see those earrings, girl!!

  6. love your treasure. Those babies are expensive when they have the built in bases. It is really pretty. I love to dream about holidays way ahead of time too. I looked thru a Christmas cookbook and a Halloween book this weekend.

  7. Of course, I have turkey with gravy for Thanksgiving, but seldom have it through the year. I avoid gravy otherwise. That is a beautiful piece of china. I'd use it for some salsa or fruit compote in between gravy days. Thanks for sharing your blue. Happy Blue Monday.

  8. Have you ever made a rainbow jellow in a 9X13" pyrex dish? From the side of the dish, you see about 10 layers of colored jello - alternating the clear jello with jello that's been tinted with condensed milk to give it creamy/opaque look. This jello dish has become a tradition at our annual passover seder. The kids enjoy marveling over it with all of their senses! ~Kari

  11. What a beautiful gravy boat. I don't blame you for wanting it. We have pickled peaches only at the holidays. We do not live in the South, so I have to make my own and that puts a damper on my love for them. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

  12. Hi Elizabeth, your mom's gravy boat is so charming in blur and white. a real treasure that I hope you will have to enjoy for a long time.

We definitely eat certain foods on holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, that we do not eat at any other times of the year. One thing is a fruit salad with whipped cream dressing. Mmmmmm so good.

    Hugs...Jeanne
