Welcome to another installment of Blue Monday, hosted by one of the sweetest bloggers around, Smiling Sally! There are more than 60 participants from all around the world in this great weekly meme, so take some time to check out the cool blue things they are sharing! I will not be visiting very many because I will be leaving on vacation in about an hour, but crazy blogger that I am, I got up early to link up. The rest of the week my posts are scheduled.
I have this great vintage tablecloth I got on eBay about 2 years ago. At the time I thought I wanted to be a collector of vintage linens and I bought several tablecloths.
This one was actually an accidental purchase, and it turned out to be my favorite! I was bidding on something from a seller, and thought I'd just put in a quick low bid on this particular tablecloth and I got it, but not the one I actually wanted. I think I paid less than $5.00 for it, that's what I mean by a low-ball offer.
It is the only one of all my tablecloths that has a manufacturer's label.I also didn't read the dimensions carefully, because it turns out to be a square, and is too small for my dining table. However, I have used it on my round outdoor table, and on my rectangular dining table I place it like a diamond so some wood is showing. Besides the great vibrant colors, and awesome blue checkered border, the fabric is not the typical smooth linen that is kind of stiff when ironed.
It is more of a flow-y feedsack quality fabric, a little thicker, more work-horse material. Although I have decided that I am not a collector of vintage linens, I will definitely keep this one, even if I get rid of some others.
Have you ever had an accidental purchase that turned out great?

I'm sure that I have, but I can't think of one at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love the vibrant colors; it's amazing that they've lasted. I agree with you that it's worth keeping and displaying. Enjoy your vacation. Happy Blue Monday.
I love those colorful vintage tablecloths from the '30s and '40s. I've got a few that were handed down to me from my mother and aunts, but they're not in the great shape yours is. I'd love to collect vintage linens - just don't have anyplace to store them! But I enjoyed looking at yours. Happy Blue Monday and have a safe trip!

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty tablecloth! The colors are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI usually don't have accidental purchases....at least I don't think I do...I purchase too much...and that is not an accident.
Have a great week!
Nothing beats the vibrant color of old, well cared for linen. This was a find. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tablecloth!
ReplyDeleteI don´t remember any accidental purchases really, but I remember once or twice when I didn´t buy something I wanted. I rarely regret what I did, but I sometimes regret what I didn´t do.
Hello Elizabeth, I adore your vintage tablecloth and the price. Big smile here. You can use it on a card table too. With my gang, I am always putting up extra seating with a card table. Love the blue and white checks and fruit.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation and take lots of pics.
Hugs...Jeanne
Brillant Blue tablecloth and perfect for the summertime!

I'm not an accidental purchase kind of girl. I purposely don't take money places so that I won't buy on the spur of the moment. I've been like that since I was a teenager. I know, weird. If you see my profile's pic you'll also know WEIRD. LOL Anyway, tablecloth reminded me of all the pretty red and white checkered tablecloths that my grandmother used...all neatly pressed without a wrinkle in them. I can still see her unwrinkled face in my mind's eye. I miss her today. I hope you have a great vacation.

ReplyDeleteThere have been times of troubles when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in big initial investment.
Now, I'm happy and lucky , I started to get real income.
It's all about how to select a correct partner who utilizes your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real business, and shares the income with me.
You may ask, if there are such firms? I have to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
