Today is my birthday! 42, nothing special as far as milestones go. I got myself some presents, in anticipation of getting money from my parents, so I hope they come through! I am pretending that these purchases are an investment in my scrapbooking and card making business. But in reality I've been lusting for one of these cutting machines for over a year.
The Silhouette is like a printer, except it cuts things. It comes with software, gets hooked up to your computer and you can cut out images or words. It's great for crafts, but imagine the possibilities for signs, artwork, science fair displays, etc. It also comes with etching cream, so you can cut an image and then etch it onto glass, and decorating vinyl for putting things on the wall or a board. I had thought about getting a Cricut, but the Silhouette works with fonts that are already on your computer, so you don't have to buy all sorts of cartridges. It's a lot cheaper, too. It arrived yesterday, and I have it set up and I'm figuring it out. It came with very clear directions, installed easily and everything is working right, I just have to learn how to get what I want out of it. As soon as I make something decent I'll share it with you!
I also got these Nestabilities dies for cutting frames and shapes. Now that I am making multiples of things, it takes a long time to cut by hand. With this things can go faster, plus there are so many great shapes and sizes I can try out all sorts of new techniques. If you click on the links to these items, QVC has video demonstrations you can check out.
Then there was the surprise gift! I won a set of coasters from Suzanne at ColoradoLady last week. When the package arrived, it was much larger than anticipated, and shook around as if there were some light items in it along with the stone coasters. Imagine my excitement when I opened the box to see several cutely wrapped gifts and a birthday card!
Tearing open the tissue paper, I was thrilled to discover all sorts of fun scrapbooking materials! Thank you, Suzanne, you know me well. I am on a mission not to buy paper or stickers until I use some of what I've got, but I definitely will accept gifts! I'm very eager to get down to business with my new toys and materials.
Do you have any crafting tools that you love, or wish you had? Do you ever buy yourself birthday gifts?

Wow, you're really being pampered!
One of the items I kind of miss and that was a favourite of mine is the big gold or silver marker. Those tend to run out quickly though, or maybe I had used them too much...
And yes, I do buy myself birthday gifts. You're definitely not the only one. =)
Have fun today!
Happy birthday!
Now you can make fabulous scrapbooks and crafts! Happy birthday!

The happiest birthday to you, dear one...
Oh, this looks like such fun. I had never heard of a cutter like that. Sounds terrific.
Happy Birthday. 42 - that was about my best age I think. I loved the 40s. Didn't like the 30s and I'm not real fond of the 70s. Nope, 40s are best.
