Well, the town of Greensburg in Kansas isn't back from the tornado that devastated them in May 2007, but the reality show about them is back on the Planet Green channel. I love this program that is following the rebuilding of a town that was almost completely destroyed.
Only 2 buildings were left on Main Street, most of the homes are gone, and all of the trees. Not having trees in Kansas is an extra big deal, because they are the only thing that slows down the strong winds.
After the devastation of the tornado, in looking at ways to rebuild their town and not lose businesses and citizens, the town council voted to rebuild all town facilities to a "green" standard of LEED Platinum level. If they are successful in this long-range plan, they will be the first town in the world that is totally green. Many of the homeowners are building ecofriendly, as are the businesses. Greensburg GreenTown is a great blog documenting all of the interesting eco-building techniques, architecture competitions, home progress, and individual inspirational stories of the residents who are so committed to making their town even better than it was before the tornado. The official Town of Greensburg website has many pictures of the devastation and the progress they've made in two years.
New episodes are on Sunday nights, but they re-run the shows frequently, so you're DVR will easily find it. You can visit Planet Green's website to see if your cable company runs it. For me it is a second-tier channel. If you don't get Planet Green, the first season is available on DVD, so you could get it at Netflix or maybe your local library.
I'm sure you can imagine my feelings seeing this picture of the destruction of the library, with the courthouse, one of the two buildings left, in the background.
All of the pictures I used here were taken by MSgt Angel Acosta and MSgt Neil Fogg of the National Guard, and are from the State of Kansas web site.

I need to look for this show, this channel! Thanks for the reminder. Have a good weekend :)
OMG...what terrible devastation...my prayers go out to all the families. Sorry I have not been here in a while! I try to get to all of my "ladies" I am following in the blogs. They are lined up in alphabetical order and you are toward the end. Inevitably, something happens to distract me and a day or two will go by! Now I am going to start at the end of the alphabet and go backwards!
Thanks for letting us know about the show and keeping this in the forefront so people away from there don't forget!
May you have a wonderful Mother's day my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Just stopping by to wish you a
Happy Mother's Day
The Raggedy Girl
Since you are interested in the re-building of Greensburg, I wonder if you know Anita over at Prairie Dreams ? She lives there, was in the terrible tornado and is just moving out of their Fema trailer into a house there. Her site is full of her story...if you've not been there, you will enjoy it. Anita herself is a sweet lady...
Have a blessed day..
