My Mom Rocks!

Today, March 20, is my mom's birthday! She is turning the big 7-0! Just look at her, can you believe she's 70? Her energy is amazing; I get tired just sitting and watching her run around the house doing everything. A few months ago she says, "In the afternoons sometimes I feel a little tired." "Mom, you are almost 70, you run around all day, you've had cancer TWICE, and you have a heart condition. Maybe it's normal that you're a little tired in the afternoons!"
My mom is a very realistic parent. We never had unreasonable rules or curfews. She figured if everyone else's child had a curfew, and we were the driver, then we were forced to be home at a reasonable hour. Pretty smart. We just had to commit to a time that we'd be home, or call that we'd be late. This was the days before cell phones, of course.
We always knew that our parents would be there to support us, even if we did something bad enough to go to jail. Of course, we also knew she wouldn't pull strings or fight to get us out. But she'd still love us and get a lawyer or whatever needed to be done.I grew up in the 80s, and decided I wanted a crazy Cyndi Lauper hair-do. My friend buzzed the hair on one side of my head, and we colored it lots of different shades of blonde. My father almost cried, but my mother said, "Honey, it's just hair, it's not a tattoo, or doing drugs. It'll grow back." I only maintained the buzz for about 3 months and then started growing it back out to get both sides matching again. So I had my dad to rebel against, and my mom to be the voice of reason for what teenagers will do!She is also a great grandma. Every summer she takes the grandchildren and the rest of us to the beach for a week. She also has "Camp Grandma" for a few days twice a summer where the kids stay with her. They love the pool, and she always has crafts and special movies for them.
I am very fortunate to have such a smart, organized, confident, and caring mother. She is the reason I am also smart, organized, confident, and caring!

I love that photo of her in the red and you two girls aside her. Is that you with the darker hair?

Happy birthday Mom! No WAY does she look 70! Holy cow! And with all the health problems she's had/has it's amazing that she's kept such a youthful look about her. Must all be in the attitude, just like you, always looking for the bright side.

No wonder you're so amazing; the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. And, no, I do not believe those are the pictures of a 70 year old.
