Turquoise Brooch

Is the lack of sunlight and the dreary weather making you BLUE? Not if you're Smiling Sally who lives in Florida and is our hostess for BLUE MONDAY each week. This is your chance to see the bright side of BLUE, azure skies, warm tropical oceans, exotic flowers, AND all the cool things the BLUE MONDAY participants are sharing. Sally herself has some vivid Valentine artwork.
I am showing off this absolutely gorgeous brooch from my mother that you are going to covet greatly. She bought it in the early 1960s. I'm sure it's technically still hers, but it's in my house now, so I hope she doesn't plan on wearing it any time soon!
I love everything about it: it's the perfect size to wear on a jacket, sweater or hat; it hasn't lost any stones; the colors are multi-seasonal and cheery, and especially I love the curved arms/petals of the design. The beads are turquoise and freshwater pearls, and the center stone is an amethyst. It's nice and heavy with a strong pin. Sometimes heavy brooches have a cheap pin and then they flop all over the place!

I hope you'll take some time to visit Sally and the other BLUE MONDAY participants over at Smiling Sally! I bet you've got a lot of blue that you haven't even noticed that you could share with us, too!

Ooooooooh, Elizabeth -- such a nice "shiny" object you have there. It is a real beauty. I like the design, and I like the color of the stones. Better be careful, lest a magpie swoop in and carry it away to her nest. ;-)

Thanks for sharing this with us, and I hope your mom continues to share it with you! :-)

Happy Blue Monday...

XO,

Sheila

That is really beautiful. I love the color of the amethyst in the middle and how the pearls and turquoise look the same.

I adore vintage brooches. You're right...well, I try not to covet. My philosophy is...I want you to have one and ME to have one too! :)

Oh my goodness. I saw a vintage pin last week on Etsy that looked quite similar. I just had to have it! I'll show you when it comes. Still, there's nothing like a piece of moms yesterday.
