Each Saturday, Beverly from How Sweet the Sound hosts a day of pinkness, with over 100 participants! For PINK SATURDAY this week I thought I'd tell everyone about a PINK OPPORTUNITY! I was reminded and inspired after reading Beverly's post last week about the indomitable Kay Yow.Three months ago we were all talking about breast cancer, encouraging each other to get mammograms, discussing family histories, etc. Many of us hosted giveaways, bought items from crafters that were donating to charities, and made donations ourselves. How many of us joined the Army of Women?
Dr. Susan Love and the Avon Foundation have joined together to recruit an army of volunteers. By signing up for the army, volunteers are only agreeing to receive information about studies into the causes of breast cancer. There may be a study with which someone could help, if they chose to after reading about it. This amazing new initiative began last fall with 50, 000 women participating in the Sister Study, gathering data through questionnaires and small samples of urine, hair, toe nails, blood. Any woman, regardless of age, medical history, or race can participate.
I encourage you to take the time to look at their web site and see if this is something with which you would be comfortable. Pass on the information to friends via email or your blog. I've also made a button that you can use for linking to their site; I don't know why they don't have one of their own, but they are making a widget that will soon be available. Here's a link to an interview with Dr. Susan Love on Good Morning America. Unfortunately you have to watch a little advertisement first.
Be sure to visit the PINK SATURDAY participants, listed at How Sweet the Sound, and see what cool things they are sharing.

We're starting a challange on February 9th to see how much money we can save for that week by using what we already have in our pantries, freezer, and fridge. We'll going to see how long we can go without going to the grocery store! Gulp! We would love for you to join us :)
