Like many of us, I was a Girl Scout. Working to earn badges was a great way to learn so many things. I probably would have picked up some of my crafty skills through my mom anyway, but having a goal made finishing a project that much more important. There were two sewing-related badges, one called Sewing that covered basics like hems, buttons, threading a needle, and the other called Needlework, which was more of a cross-stitch and crewel work badge. Our first project for Needlework was a stamped cross-stitch. I did an Amish farmer, and it hangs framed in my parents' hallway today. You'll get to see it on another occasion.
Nearby hangs my second project, a sampler kit with four different stitches on blue linen. From the year on it, I made it when I was nine, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't moved from that wall since then, especially because the wallpaper hasn't changed! I really like this piece, and someday will have it hanging in my own home. My mom keeps trying to give it to me, but I don't want her hallway to look bare like the vultures are circling for all of her things.I hope you enjoy all of the blue things on display this week via Smiling Sally.

You did that when you were nine, good grief girl, I couldn't do that at any time in my life. I can sew, but it pretty much ends there. My friends in Blogland never ceases to amaze me.

I did stamped cross stitch when I was nine but I could not have done this! It's really nice and a pretty blue.
Very impressive for you to have had that talent at the age of nine. I've never had any talent in the needle work area.

Yes, I was a girl scout, but I never did anything that fine. My mom loved me, but she wasn't proud enough to keep, let alone hang anything I did! Happy Blue Monday.

I remember the sewing badge but the not the needlework one -- wish I had gotten that one! But maybe my love for needlework came later. That is beautiful and done at the age of 9! Wow!
How amazing that you created such an impressive needlepoint piece at the age of nine! Wow! At nine, I was still at the stage of starting a little project of some sort, losing interest, and never finishing it! I'm amazed at your nine-year old focus. :-)

How well I remember earning Girl Scout badges and then I became a leader and my daughters earned them. You certainly earned a golden badge for your beautiful work. It shows a lot of natural talent. Happy Blue Monday!
