LOVE Garland

I made my first garland this week! I was very excited to make one of these decorations that are so "in" right now. I had a kit from Cosmo Cricket that I bought from my good friends at QVC a year ago, and never used. It's one of those all-encompassing kits with materials for different types of mini albums, cards, and stand-alone paper crafting projects. I like to put my own spin on things, so I used embellishments and fibers that I already had to jazz up the chipboard from the kit. Using two copies of some vintage Valentine images, I cut them out as precisely as I could, then glued them back to back. They hang from a fuzzy pink fiber, and being double-sided, no matter how they may turn in a breeze it will still be pretty. Then I used some stickers and chipboard pieces to decorate the floral circles and inside the shapes of the letters.I thought it looked pretty good when I first finished it, but I wanted to get the full effect, so I taped it up to the mantle for a quick look. The letters didn't stand out from the circles as much as I would have liked, so I did a quick outline of the letters with a dark brown marker, which gave them more presence. Voila! Now I'm going to make another one with the chipboard letters that were punched out of the circles!

Garland has become my latest up and coming "gotta do". It really can go just about anywhere and it makes the holiday decoration withdrawal a tad easier.

It looks very nice but then I knew at your crafty hands it would.

I used to love this type of crafting--with a kit and explicit instructions. I might just start up again.

Very cute Elizabeth! I'm like you - I can't just do a kit as intended I always have to add my own spin. I like how you outlined the letters in brown. It really added depth to them. Actualy, that looks really cute on your fireplace, I may have to steal, I mean borrow your idea! ~ Robyn
