My mom got me this tambourine at a yard sale the year I was a gypsy for Halloween. I wore it hanging from my belt so I jangled as I walked. I didn't realize it was something nifty until I started participating in VTT! Now I've seen it on eBay and other places! I use it for a decoration, propped in a little vignette. ![]() | ![]() |
These are just two of the many cardboard items my mom hangs on the kitchen cabinets every year. She has a ghost and a Frankenstein, jointed black cats, and a 4 foot jointed skeleton. They are all from the early 60s when my grandfather owned a card shop.
In the 70s when ceramics was a big thing, my mom took some classes and made these pumpkins. They both have lids that come off so you can put cookies or candy in them. The little one, dated 1972, is actually the first thing she ever made, and you can see that the paint for the face ran. Once Halloween is over, I turn the face around and just have 2 pumpkins!
Only one more week until Halloween! Be sure to come back and see what I will have next week! Now float in a ghostly fashion over to Confessions of an Apron Queen and see what other people have on display!

Oh, how I enjoyed your vintage Halloween goodies. I have many happy Halloween memories from back when the world was kinder, more gentle place. Take care, Faith
Fun Vintage Halloween Elizabeth. I really like the tambourine!!
I love that sweet little tambourine and the ceramic pumpkins too :)
Vintage ceramic pumpkins?! *SWOON*
I remember those old cardboard decorations. Still have some jack-o-lanterns myself. There used to be a novelty store around the corner from me that sold old pieces very cheaply. Mr. Finklestein was very nice about showing me the best he had. Thanks for sharing your collection. xxoo
Your mom still has her original cardboard ones? Woweeeeeeeeeee! I remember having a black cat and a skeleton made from that.
Justine :o )
Yes we are attached by the hip, I
love your vintage Halloween. The
Tambourine is amazing! Love it!!!!
The card board cut outs are neat too!
The only thing different for me is that few of my treasures/jewelry were originally family owned. And
that's another story.... :) ♥
Mom had the Hoosier for a long time. She had all the all the paint stripped off and then had it refinished. I'm sure that all cost a bunch. She seemed so happy that Bob wanted it. He treasures it dearly. I probably need to list it somehow on our insurance along with all my precious cows. Take care. Love, Faith
Very vintagey.... LOL... I thought they were simply devine and really enjoyed your story to go along with them...

I love the big pumpkin your mom made! And, I had a pumpkin pin that lit up too. I have see if it's still around.
By the way, I would have given you the Fabulous Fall Decor award if Suzanne didn't give it to you first. I love seeing all your decorations. Now, please come and make my house look Halloween-y. :)

Great vintage stuff...The tamborine seems like an odd thing to have Halloween decorations on..but what a great treasure!
I've seen those tamborines around somewhere and the cardboard cutouts remind me of what we had hanging in our rural school house in the 70s! Thanks for the Memory!

Your vintage Halloween things are treasures, for sure, especially that tamborine.
Enjoyed visiting with you.

Your mom did a great job on the pumpkins. I still have an acorn that my grandma made during that era.
I love how the pumpkin on the plate winks at you.
