I don't know the proper name for these decorations. My family always called them the melted plastic popcorn decorations. They are made of thousands of little confetti-like pieces of plastic that have been slightly melted and molded into a design. These were bought in the early 1970s. They were difficult to find back then, and I haven't seen new ones for sale anywhere in the last 30 years.
I prepared this post a few weeks ago, and have since been made aware that my blog visitors seem to enjoy learning things here. I thought I was being too "teacher-ish"! Originally I had asked if anyone knew where I could buy more of these or what they were called. But, being the researcher that I am, I checked out these kitschy items myself. 
People actually DO call them melted plastic popcorn decorations! I googled the term and got 87,000 hits! Most were from people looking for these decorations or selling them. They sell for about $3.00-$10.00, depending on their rarity, on eBay and other sites. My pumpkin and witch were all over the place, as were lots of cute ones for Christmas. I also found the name of the manufacturer, which I have since forgotten, but they went out of business 3 years ago.I hope these guys brought back memories for some of you! OMG... Elizabeth you have really brought back a flood of memories... I can remember my mother buying these when I was a child... we use to take a ride to Revere Beach in Mass. and pick them out... We had many of them for holidays and other decorations for kid’s rooms... Thanks for the memories...

OMG, I can not believe my eyes!! My mom had these things for every single holiday! She always had them on the kitchen cabinets...I bet my mom still has one (or 2 or 10!!)

INSTANT flashback when I saw these! My cousins had them hanging all over there walls in the 70's. I was always jealous and wanted some for MY walls. Mom wouldn't budge! Ha!

Those are great! I helped my neighbor with a rummage sale recently and she sold a ton of these. The kinda like twinkies and cockroaches - they'll survive anything LOL

My 7 year old son and I came across one of these Christmas decorations at a thrift store last week. He was so curious as to how they are made. I remember them from my childhood and didn't buy it since I want to start new childhood memories for him. Mostly, I don't want to get hook onto collecting these as I tend to do with many of my thrift store finds. However, when I came across the witch yesterday for 19 cents at the Salvation Army thrift store, I could not pass it up as I supposed bad Karma if I did. Her broomstick was loose at the straw part but nothing a hot knife didn't repair. So, as soon as I get her rigged up to hang, she'll be flying high.
Thanks for this post. I was trying to explain these things to my husband one day & he looked at me like I was from Mars. They use to sell them at our State Fair when I was little (always held in October), but I never got one. Now I can show him that I'm not crazy!!! well, maybe! Happy Halloween!
My Grandmother had a bunch of these she would always put up mainly for Halloween and Christmas. Sadly she had to go to a nursing home and everything in her house had to be taken out. So the first thing I did was grab all of her decorations including the melted plastic popcorn ones. That was a few years ago and I still use them today.
