I don't have any interior pictures, but I live in a town full of historic homes. Most are maintained beautifully, with classic paint colors and gardens, and are still single-family homes, even though they are large. I decided to focus on homes from the Victorian era for this tour.
A group of very large, Victorian-era homes sits above this rock retaining wall. The homes look down on a small local college, which is also made up of many beautiful old homes that are now offices, classrooms, etc. What I find very interesting is that from this side of the homes, there are no driveways, only steps from the street to the homes. Carriages would drop people off out front, and go around back to put away the horse and buggy. This means that the people who live here now, have driveways that go right up to their back doors/kitchens. How easy to bring in the groceries!
This house sits on a fairly busy street, as do most historic homes in my area. In the early morning when I am driving to work, the homeowners are out having their coffee on the porch.
As an historic Victorian home, this doesn't have a lot of scroll work or other interesting architectural details. BUT, if you look at the two windows on the left of the side of the house, you will see giraffes peering out at you! There is no window there, it is just painted to look like a window. At some point they must have reconfigured the inside of the home and not wanted those 2 windows. All of the others seem to be replacements that were done in the last 20 years.
The family that lives in this home is very fortunate. They are on a side street which is pretty quiet, and they still have plenty of land behind the house. Often, historic homes have newer homes built very close to them as families sold off their land over the years.
This home was a DUMP and the current owners have worked on it for over a year. I'd love to see what they did with the inside. I like everything about the outside except the star. They are really getting over used in our area of the country, plus it's not very Victorian.
Wouldn't you love to host a garden party in this house? Or sit up in that tower reading & writing? Even though this is technically not just a home, the family lives on the top 2 floors and the business is on the first floor. Can you guess what the business is?
For my final home I have 2 pictures so you can really see the beautiful millwork. This house sits right on Main St. across from the town common. It has been for sale off and on for 2 years.
Again, don't forget to visit Julia at Hooked on Houses to see her house tour as well as that of the other participants. And, you might also want to take some time to visit Laura from Fifi Flowers, the artist and decorator who painted this awesome button from a picture Julia gave her!

Those are beautiful and I love older homes...we love to go to St. Augustine, Florida and just walk arouind all the homes and shops.
Elizabeth..these homes are gorgeous! Thank you for posting them!
I'm enjoying Julia's tour.

How fun!! Love those homes - especially the first one! We think it's great how the people painted a scene on the two windows instead of taking them out - preserves the house a little bit (we probably wouldn't have done the giraffes - but it IS fun!!!)
Thanks for stopping by!

Great tour, Elizabeth! I just flip over old houses like this, and you just had one right after the other for me to drool over.
I'm guessing the big white house is a funeral home? Seems like all the biggest and nicest houses are always used for them. :-)
Thanks for joining the blog party! -Julia
what beautiful homes!
Savannah, GA has some beautiful painted ladies with plenty of gingerbread.
Loved the tour of the town!
I am guessing a funeral home, too, however, I hope I am wrong! lol A restaurant would be nicer :)
I kind of like the star on that house, but then again, I am into stars lately...it's a happy house, love the colors!
That's funny about the giraffes ;)
Loved your tour!
Bella :)
I'm a fan of the mid-century modern look, but I've always thought Victorian architecture is beautiful. I love the little yellow one with the star.
Thank you so much for the lovely tour. I enjoyed it immensely!
Great tour, it is so nice to see other people's hometowns. The millwork on those last two homes is amazing, they look like wedding cakes. If you get a minute, stop by my blog, I'm part of the house tour too!
Hi! I just loved your tour of the old Victorian Houses! They are all so unique and different, but all so quaint and pretty! Great post! ~Rhonda :)
Ooh Elizabeth, you picked some truly gorgeous homes to showcase. Now what was the business on the first floor of that one home? I thought a restaurant maybe.
I cannot believe the people in the yellow house put up that star. It totally detracts from the beauty of the house. Knock on their door and tell them so! LOL
Justine :o )
My next house is going to have a porch and I will sit there in the morning and drink my coffee, and then later in the evening I will sit there and watch the passersby. And maybe I will even nod or something.
Thanks for those lovely daydream inducing porches!

I saw in your profile that you had lymphoma...my husband just completed chemo for non-Hodgkin. I hope all is going well for you now.

those are some gorgeous houses, right up my alley!
Thanks for the tour !
To answer the question, it is a funeral home. The best houses in our area are all funeral homes, it seems!
What a great collection of houses. I put together some house for my tour from my town as well. Don't you wish you could have gotten into all of them! I know I did.
Elizabeth, I loved your tour of houses. They are truly beautiful!
Terrie

Ah Elizabeth,
You are speaking my language. This post was chock full of some of the most wonderful homes. How fortunate you are to live in such a town.
Hi Elizabeth :)
You KNOW I would love this. Beautiful homes!! I'm over the star thing too. I actually had an out of town visitor that asked what all the stars meant on everyones homes. They thought it was a cult LOL
Is the business a restaurant??
