Simple Woman July 14

I am participating in the Simple Woman's Daybook, sponsored by Peggy at The Simple Woman. It is a great way to start off the week! Stop by Peggy's blog to see who else is participating and read their entries, then think about joining us next week!

July 14, 2008
Outside my window I can see strange goings-on at the neighbors. There have been domestic issues for a few weeks, but they were new neighbors to begin with, so no one knows what is going on. I think only 1 member of the family is currently living there. Different cars and people come & go all day long. HMMM...
I am thinking that I am glad I made my weekly to-do list before doing this week's Daybook. It lets me lay out my week, as well as prepare for this posting.
I am wondering what people think about sharing information about their children on their blogs. Do you show photos, use their real names, tell about their activities? Do you worry about weirdos? Please share your thoughts in the Comments section, I'm sure there are many people who'd want to read the ideas of others.
I am thankful for all of the many home-delivery services available to us these days. Clothes, home decor, dry cleaning, DVDs, even groceries!
I am creating recipe pages for a scrapbook swap. The recipe is for an Asian cucumber salad. I am also working on my Christmas cards, and when I am watching TV I am making hemp bracelets.
I am going to the doctor twice this week. Once for a regular appointment & then later in the week to meet with "Diabetes Management" so I can learn more about my new condition & how to take care of it.
One of my favorite things is taking a nap on the beach. Falling asleep hearing the waves & the people and smelling the salty, sun-blocky air. I never seem to be completely asleep, but it's a nice little doze!
I am reading The Gods of Newport by John Jakes. He does a nice job including accurate historical information in his novels, & weaving his characters into actual events.
I am hoping that my package from
The Simple Woman's Summer Swap arrives this week. It is coming from Canada, so it will take longer.
In the kitchen I am not known as a cook in any way! However, this is the recipe for the Asian cucumber salad I am scrapbooking. It's not too spicy or sweet, & it's a little more substantial than the standard cuke salad.

INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 large cucumber, thinly sliced
1/2 green onion, sliced
1/2 carrot, julienned
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, stir together vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Heat oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in sesame seeds, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until seeds are brown, about 5 minutes.
Remove seeds with a slotted spoon, and stir into vinegar mixture.Mix in cucumber, green onions, and carrot.
This can be eaten at room temperature, but be sure to let it chill and marinate for at least an hour before serving.
A Silly Picture Thought..."Psstt...Don't share these peanuts with the squirrels!"

Good Morning Elizabeth!! Thanks for you comment about Longaberger - yes, we feel fortunate to be so close to it! We've had a lot of fun over the years!
I loved reading your thoughts and things you do! I love listening to the waves hit the beach also - it HAS to be the best thing to help you relax and get a little shut-eye!
I thought I'd share about pictures of kids....I never post them online - it does concern me, in fact, I don't think I even use thier names - I'll chat about them if the story permits...anyway - thanks for stopping by!

Your question about sharing stuff about your kids on our blogs. let me start off my saying I have talked about the ins and outs of this with my brother -in -law who is a huge techie.

Here's what he suggests. No names at all unless you make up some nicknames..as I have done! He also says don't tell where you live or give birth dates and so on. His policy is you can't be too safe. He has worked for major companies at IBM and citrix and really knows what he is talking about!

The salad sounds delicious! :) I didn't get any cucumbers this week, but I'd love to try it sometime.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! :) I do share about our daughter on my blog, but I don't ever use her full name (just a nickname). I do occasionally post pictures, but they rarely show her face fully.

Blessings,
Michele :)

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I don't usually cook in the heat, but it was cheaper than buying cookies from the store. (I'm glad I did. I didn't come home with any!!)

I'm definitely gonna try the cuc salad!! It sounds delicious! (and great in the heat! he he)
