World of Giveaways!

It's time for the One World, One Heart Giveaway Event, sponsored by Lisa at A Whimsical Bohemian. This is the third year of this event, which seeks to help us find new blogging friends around the world. It's a simple concept, and you can join in with your own giveaway anytime before the closing on February 11, with the winners announced Thursday, February 12.
The original idea behind this giveaway event was to bring bloggers together from around the world who may never ordinarily meet. It closes the gap of the blog community and enables us to interact, discover new and wonderful people, and in the process possibly win a prize or many prizes along the way. This is more than wanting to win something, in the end it's about finding kindred spirits. Someone who may be fairly new to blogging, not sure how to navigate, find others and have others find them. Some are long time bloggers and in some cases well known in the art community. Whatever the case it brings all of them together. We are not solving the world's problems nor are we curing anything nor are we changing the world. We are merely generating a closer community between humans through blogging.
I am giving away two prizes to two different winners, with a sort of international flair to them. Each prize is a novel and a pair of earrings.
First,
Galway Bay by Mary Pat Kelly, which I reviewed last week. Many of my visitors expressed interest in reading this sweeping Irish family saga, so I thought I'd give it away, along with a pair of sterling silver Celtic symbol earrings. They are very delicate and light.
The second book takes place in the city of Amsterdam and is about a fictional rock band that has gone from the pinnacle of fame and potential to the bottom of the heap.
Rock Bottom by Michael Shilling is funny, touching, raw, and wearying, as I told readers in my review. Since Amsterdam is known for diamond trading, the earrings with this book will be...NOT diamonds! They are delicate sterling silver with a beautiful cage holding a square cut crystal. We can pretend it's a diamond, though, if you like!
To win one of these wonderful books with their coordinating earrings, all you have to do is:

  • Have an active blog,
  • Leave a comment on this post only,
  • Leave a way for me to contact you with your comment,
  • Choose which of the 2 books you prefer, and tell me why in the comments.
  • Winners will be chosen by Random.org after midnight Eastern US time, Wednesday, February 11, and announced on Thursday, February 12.
You can also visit the One World, One Heart site and enter other folks' giveaways!

I never win anything, but boy how I'd love to get my hands on your copy of Galway Bay. Well, as long as there are no boogers stuck to the pages or anything :o )
There's just something about the way you described this book... almost as if while reading it you were there with them in Ireland and then followed them on all their trials and tribulations. I HAVE to read this book!

Justine :o )

Hello, Elizabeth! I've been reading you for a while now and enjoying your diverse blogging habits! Very creative lady.

Let's see. I have a love of all things Celtic. My background is Scottish, from the Stuart of Bute. So methinks I would opt for the Galway Bay book and Celtic earrings. And I follow some wonderful Irish bloggers who are rich with stories and life.

However, as a boomer, I have learned NOT to be picky ... that's plain rude! ;-)

Anyway, thank you for hosting such a great giveaway. Any day, any time, any minute ~ come see me on my blog. That's where I'll be in the evenings ('cause I work full-time out of the home).

Take care.

Please enter me in your giveaway for the Galway Bay read and the celtic earrings....I love anything Irish :) Lovely blog! xo hippiedog.typepad.com

Both books sound like good reads, but I would pick Galway Bay as a first choice. Mainly because my maternal grandmother was half-Irish. We are not sure exactly when the family immigrated to the US but think it was probably in the late 1800's.

Thanks for the chance to win. A good book and jewelry, what more could you ask.

Hi. I'd really like to read "Rock Bottom" because I'm a history student and think this would relate well to the history of pop culture. The earrings are pretty too! Thanks for participating. Beth at pleasemomdontsing.blogspot.com

What a neat idea to give away matching books and earrings! For myself, I have to resist visiting used book stores because whenever I wander near one I come away with a bag full of new reading material.

I'd have to vote for Galway Bay as my favourite here, although they both look great. My family is originally Irish, and I have always loved Irish tales because I feel like they connect me with my roots.

I should have my giveaway up on my blog soon, so be sure to stop by and visit!
